What is IYPT?
In short – IYPT (International Young Physicists’ Tournament), or sometimes referred to as the Physics World Cup, is a competition based on experimental and theroretical problem solving. Every year 17 open physics problems are released (see 2025 problems). High school students from around the world then work on them for a year and then meet up to take part in the tournament where they defend their work and their solutions! This year, it takes place in Lund Sweden.
Why would I participate in IYPT?
As mentioned, and what you might gather from looking at the problems, you get to combine your experimental and theoretical skills in physics primarily. The way you have to work with the problem, by testing your set-up and hypothesizes, closely resemble the way a degree project is conducted. You get to learn the real scientific method and deepen your knowledge in something that is both challenging and fun. With the wide spread of problems there is something for everybody!
Worth mentioning is also that it is a fun way to meet people that are also interested in physics, math and/or programming and you get the change to meet people from around the world if you later participate in the tournament. It is also a great merit for application to universities, since IYPT is a globally recognized competition.
What is happening at the camp?
So what is this camp about? It takes place at Lund University’s physics department. This is a great opportunity if you have just gotten started on your problem and want to focus a couple of days on working on it. There will also be supervisors ready to help out or answer questions! The camp is free, you only need to pay for your trip to Lund University and your food. It is very fun and you learn a lot! There is a limited number of spaces, so we will have a first-come first-served policy.
