Nyårskonserterna har varit en tradition under mer än 30 år. Under en följd av år har Kjell-Åke Bjärming med sina musiker bjudit lundaborna på festliga konserter varje nyårsdag. Orkestern leds som alltid av Kjell-Åke Bjärming och består av ca 55 hängivna instrumentalister från Lund-Malmöregionen, i media kallad NSO (Nyårssymfoniorkestern).
